General Recap of games: Overall, while the games yesterday were nice to watch, and see college football for the first time in 2017, there was very little excitement within the games. Since there were only five games yesterday, I will give my quick thoughts on each game, during the season, I will give my opinions on the games that have an impact on the Top 25 or games between power conference schools that I feel are impactful on the season. Starting with the first game of the day in, Oregon State at Colorado State, I was impressed by the Colorado State passing game, as in the 58-27 win they moved effortlessly via the pass and Wide Receiver Michael Gallup wound up with 11 catches and 134 yards. Colorado State will be a tough opponent for any team and could cause some problems for the Colorado Buffaloes next Friday night. While Colorado State impressed me, BYU did not, in BYU’s 20-6 win over Portland State they only forced one turnover, and were quite ineffective for the most part on offense. Squally Canada did stand out to me though, as he had 16 rushes for 98 yards and a Touchdown. Overall though they will need a much more balanced and tougher performance next Saturday against LSU. The most competitive game of the day was Hawaii winning 38-35 over UMass, I was really impressed with both of these teams, and Hawaii Quarterback, Dru Brown really stood out as the best player on the field, with 391 passing yards and 4 total Touchdowns, if he can cut back on the amount of sacks he took yesterday, he could have a really special season. One of the bigger surprises yesterday in my opinion was San Jose State, in a losing effort, they managed to take a 16-0 lead over USF, before losing 42-22. With a similar effort all season, the Spartans could be in bowl contention. USF though was the far superior team, and they ran the ball extremely effectively, for over 300 yards on 70 attempts and 4 Touchdowns, overall that will be a tough team to beat in the American Conference once they get into a better rhythm of the season. The final game of the day was Stanford absolutely blowing out Rice 62-7, and here we arrive to my player of the week, in Stanford Running Back, Bryce Love, who averaged over 13 yards per carry and wound up with 180 yards rushing and a Touchdown. Stanford got it done on both sides of the ball, and really proved they earn the 14th spot in the rankings. After enjoying the week off, they return to action with a game at USC on September 9th.
I will be posting my predictions for Thursday nights games on Wednesday afternoon so please check back then, and feel free to interact with me on any games you feel I might have wrong and tell me why.
