Week 3 Wrap Up

My Predictions Record:  51-14  (Overall  186-41    82%)

Against the Spread Predictions:  25-24-2  (Overall  75-63-3    54%)

After Week 3, there seems to be a pretty solid Top 10, and a big gap once you get out of the top 12 teams of the poll.  The games that helped shape the polls more than any others this week were Clemson’s dominating 47-21 win over Louisville, they truly look like the best team in the country on both sides of the ball and that will be reflected in my Top 10 this week.  USC kept their hopes of an undefeated season alive with a dramatic Double Overtime win over Texas, a win that at one point looked hopeless if not for the dramatic last second comeback lead by Sam Darnold.  The final game that I feel we will look back upon with much importance was Mississippi State’s win over LSU, the Bulldogs dominated the whole game and it showed in the 37-7 win they took home, setting up a huge matchup at Georgia this Saturday night.

Other ranked teams that I feel played really well on Saturday and who’s playoff hopes I still believe in, are Oklahoma State, who completely embarrassed Pittsburgh at home in a 59-21 win, lead by my player of the week, Mason Rudolph who threw for 497 yards and 5 Touchdowns to lead one of the nations top teams to a big win.  Wisconsin will also see themselves in my Top 10 for the first time this season after their 40-6 win at BYU.  Quarterback, Alex Hornibrook threw only one incompletion the whole game and the Badgers finally showed the team that could win the Big 10.  The final team that showed me something was Florida, not because of their last second Hail Mary, but instead because they actually settled on Feleipe Franks at Quarterback and as the game went along, he seemed more and more comfortable in a win that keeps the Gators alive in the SEC race.

Some unranked teams that showed me something and will remain on my radar going forward are both Memphis and San Diego State, both of which beat Power 5 teams and keep their hopes of a New Years 6 Bowl alive.  Another team who defeated a ranked team was Vanderbilt, a win at home against Kansas State is impressive, giving up only 7 points is even more impressive, and they will need a repeat performance on defense as they host Alabama this weekend.  Texas Tech won a shootout against Arizona State to improve to 2-0, and will need to score another 52 points to win again this weekend against Houston.  Cal had a huge win at home against Ole Miss and has one of the most impressive resumes of all teams in the country so far this year combined with their win at UNC, and if they pull off a win over USC this weekend, could shoot up in the polls.

My Top 10:

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Penn State
  5. Oklahoma State
  6. USC
  7. Michigan
  8. Georgia
  9. Washington
  10. Wisconsin
